Alex Haley said, "In all of us there is a hunger, marrow-deep, to know our heritage, to know who we are and where we came from. In every conceivable manner, the family is link to our past, bridge to our future." Friends may come and go but family is a bond that will last forever. Knowing who we are is better defined with an understanding of where we came from. The 2024 Allgood-Vanzant family Reunion will be a celebration of our past, an ongoing commitment of love to our present, and a promise of love and commitment to future generations.

February 15, 1880 George Baker married Maggie Johnson, and from their union John Baker, James "Jim" Baker, and Edmon "Ed" Baker were born. George Baker's second (2nd) marriage took place July 4, 1888. George married Maggie Anderson, and from their union Georgia Baker, Mollie Baker, Mary Baker, and Ophilia Baker were born. George Baker's daughter Ophilia, born May 20, 1897 married twice during her lifetime. Ophilia's first marriage was to Henry Vanzant, and from their union ten (10) children were born:

Azaelia, Gertrude, Carl Henry, Annie Catherine, James, Maggie, George, Hurley, Frances, and Charles Vanzant.

Prior to Ophilia's second marriage to Henry Allgood, Henry Allgood's first marriage was to Gertrude Roseborough and from their union six (6) children were born:

Walter Sr, Roy, Thomas, Willis, Charlie, and Hugh Allgood.

Ophilia Baker's second (2nd) marriage was to Henry Allgood, and from their union (8) children were born:

Mary, David, Joe, Paul, Porter, Aquilla, Priscilla, and Oliver Allgood.

Over the course of three (3) marriages, a total of twenty-four (24) children were born (14 Allgood siblings and 10 Vanzant siblings). As the old saying goes, the rest is history. The Vanzant and Allgood dynasty began, and continues to this very day! On a bi-annual (every other year) basis, the third (3rd) weekend of July has been designated as the weekend in which we will celebrate the heritage of this great family. In 2024, we will be celebrating our family reunion in the city and state of Chattanooga, TN, July 19th-21st 2024.

What a celebration we will enjoy! We look forward to seeing everyone in Chattanooga, TN Friday, July 19th through Sunday, July 21st, 2024.
